Can You Relate? How to Feel Miserable as a Writer
Writers are an odd lot. We are creative, which makes us yearn for affirmation. We are artistic, which makes us susceptible to incredible self-doubt. And finally, we are open-minded on many subjects, which makes us difficult to pigeonhole. If you’re a writer, you should read James Scott Bell recent post on The Kill Zone, a blog of 11 top thriller and mystery authors, called How to Feel Miserable as a Writer. He attributed the author of the list, Keri Smith (10 Ways an Artist Can Feel Miserable), and then revised it specifically for writers. When I first read it, I related to nearly every one of the ten items on the list. By the way, if you don’t subscribe to The Kill Zone, I highly recommend it. Great stuff from some great authors. Read MoreYour Treasure Revealed
Treasures and hearts are very fickle things. Your treasure is basically the thing (person, entity, or deity) that receives the majority of your interest and time. Your heart is your mind, your will, and your understanding. The object of your focus is your treasure. The condition of your mindset is your heart. If we were to take a snapshot of our lives to find where we spend our time, money, effort, energy and what thoughts we focus on in a given day, we will then know the condition of our heart. There are only two conditions of heart. Either we are following God or we aren’t. In our verse today, Jesus tells us that we speak volumes to our friends, our family, our co-workers perhaps without even knowing it. He tells us that what we focus on reveals the...
Read MoreHeroes and Humility
Who are your hero’s? Is there a person or persons that so capture your thinking that it prompts you to want to emulate them? Careful how you answer. You reveal to the world what your ambitions are when you begin to list your heroes. I have several heroes, several people who’s lives so shine like Jesus, I hardly see them at all. Rich Mullins was one of those types of people. He spoke to the heart of the matter each and every time. And what is the heart of the matter? What would make me rank Rich Mullins as a hero? Two things come to mind. The first is that he made no apology for being human which pretty much leaves all the legalist scratching their heads. The second reason is that he expressed his relationship with God in the most truest of ways...
Read MoreA Step-by-Step Guide to Prosperity
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. - Psalm 1:3 Prosperity is defined as the state of flourishing, thriving, and success. So, how does a person prosper? Is there a formula, a model, or a step-by-step process for attaining a life of prosperity? If there is such a plan, what percentage of people actually achieve prosperity? There is indeed such a plan, such a formula, such a model. The plan is found in Psalm 1:1-3. If we follow this step-by-step plan, we gain health, productivity, and strength for ourselves and everyone around us. Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of...
Read MoreThe Bottom Line of Sister Wives
Sister Wives, the second season, premiers tonight on TLC. After seeing a few promo commercials, I began to ask myself some questions. Questions I am sure many women have asked. What could a woman hope to achieve in a plural marriage? What is the reason why a woman would engage in a plural marriage? This was a subject I had to explore. I began to research this topic of polygamy and why any woman in her right mind would not only engage in but promote and endorse a plural marriage or be counted among the many ‘sister wives.’ My research lead me to the heart of the matter. In my opinion, the answer is found in this one verse: “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and...
