Blaming God? We’ve all done it.

Blaming God? We’ve all done it.

Journal entry of thoughts and notes about the December 14th entry for My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers  entitled The Great Life. Wednesday, December 14, 2011 Oswald Chambers clarity of thought often astounds me. But it isn’t his communication of great profound truth but simple, clear, concise truth. It gets me every time. From today’s Utmost devotion we read…. Blaming God is evidence that we are refusing to let go of some disobedience somewhere in our lives. God’s mark of approval, when you obey Him, is peace.. Whenever peace does not come, wait until it does, or seek to find out why it is not coming. Any problem that comes between God and myself is the result of disobedience. Any problem that comes while I obey God (and there...

Impartiality and Pity Parties

Impartiality and Pity Parties

Getting back to my first love, I’ve started a new series on The Vessel Project called Devotions where I feature a devotion each day from some of Christianity’s most beloved authors like Oswald Chambers, Charles Haddon Spurgeon, and others. Reading the words of these heroes of faith  prompted me to write my thoughts on these devotions. Here’s my journal entry for The Impartial Power of God … Thursday, December 8, 2011 Oswald Chambers devotional, My Utmost for His Highest, is my absolute favorite devotional. Like most Christians or believers, as a new year approaches, I contemplate starting the New Year with a new devotional. There are several excellent devotionals available but my heart is somehow tethered to My Utmost for His Highest....

Getting to the Point of the Nativity

Getting to the Point of the Nativity

As we move closer and closer to Christmas, the Christmas story will be told, retold, and told again at parties, get togethers, and Church events. Many of the conversations will turn to the accuracy our conception of the Nativity Scene. There will be those that take the opportunity to tell others that the Nativity Scene we often see displayed is not quite accurate. Depending on the particular Nativity Scene they are discussing, these people may very well be correct. Healthy discussion of biblical truth is always enlightening  because it sends us to the Scriptures to discover what is true. Here’s a unique video from Igniter Media that addresses this subject. It’s called ‘Retooning the Nativity‘ and identifies several misconceptions about...

A Social Network Christmas

A Social Network Christmas

On Sunday’s, I like to post interesting video’s for the Sights & Sounds category.  Over the past few weeks, I’ve had an ongoing conversation with a friend about popularity as it relates to Social Media. We discussed why so many of us are swayed by popularity and why it really matters to us. My friend and I have long conversations about such things. These are sweet conversations and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. During a recent conversation, I mentioned something my Pastor once said. “When I get to feeling big for my britches thinking maybe I should get more respect or notoriety, I just kneel beside my bed and visualize images of what Jesus looked like on the cross. He was the King of kings but at that moment he...
