Word of God Speak

Word of God Speak

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. - Romans 10:17 This verse is often used to encourage others to dig deeper into the Bible. Many new Christians and even many seasoned Christian when faced with life changes and struggles will ask “How can I get more faith.”  Oftentimes, pastors and church leaders will respond to these questions and cite this verse. They say… If you want more faith, read your Bible because it is the word of God. A healthy intake of Scripture reading will definitely increase your knowledge of the characters and concepts of the Bible. But a healthy intake of any literature or text will do the same. For instance, if you want to increase your knowledge of how to build a sail boat, read a book about sail...

Giving Thanks, The Will of God for Your Life

Giving Thanks, The Will of God for Your Life

Have you ever wondered what exactly is the will of God for you life? As a Christian, doing the will of God is what we long to do. It’s a supernatural desire born from an urge to please God. Why? Because we love Him. When you truly love someone, you do all you can to please them. At times, this longing to be in the center of God’s will is difficult. We ask “What is the will of God?” “How can I know it?” “Where can I find it?” “How can I be sure I am in the will of God for my life?” Many Christians struggle with what the will of God is for their lives. I confess, I have struggled with those types of thoughts. I believe all Christians have at one time or another. Sometimes, Jesus makes it easy for us....

Cure for the Lonely

A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. God makes a home for the lonely; - Psalm 68:5-6a This passage of Scripture is quite precious to me because my daddy passed away when I was ten years old from complications resulting from a brain tumor. I was the third of four children raised by a single mother who never remarried. You can imagine what a struggle it was for my mother raising four children all alone. We lived just above the poverty line. My mother, my two  older brothers, and my younger sister and I were indeed the type of family Psalms 68:5 describes. It seems we are not alone. The numbers of orphans, single parent households and especially the lonely are increasing dramatically. According to the US Census...

Journaling Jesus

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen. - John 21:25  When I read this verse, I begin to ponder what were the ‘...many other things which Jesus did.’ My mind runs free thinking of such things.  To ponder what these things were is part of the glory of God and the honor of man. It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. - Proverbs 25:2 It’s a mystery wrapped in a treasure hunt. These ‘many other things’ are not limited to the time frame of the early Church. Jesus is still doing such things every day. He moves, often without us even noticing, in...

Choosing at Crossroads

And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. - Isaiah 30:21 Picture yourself standing at a crossroad not knowing which way to go. Have you ever been there? We’ve all have. Take heart, in today’s verse we find how to choose wisely at a crossroad. A GPS system is a space-based global navigation satellite system (GNSS) that provides location and time information in all weather, anywhere on or near the Earth, where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. In essence, a GPS gadget can tell you exactly where you are on earth. If you have an unobstructed view of at least four satellites, a GPS system can pinpoint your location...

Adventures in Seeking

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. - Proverbs 25:2   Are you an adventurous person? Are you curious and inquiring? Do you love to learn and discover?  If you are, today’s verse is your promise to a life of adventure. Adventure ad·ven·ture [ad-ven-cher] is an exciting or very unusual experience; participation in exciting undertakings or enterprises; and/or an exciting or unexpected event or course of events. Adventurous people ask questions. They seek answers. They take risks for the pure joy of knowing what it feels like to have journeyed into  an unusual experience, an unexpected and exciting course of events. Adventurers are ponderers. This is what today’s verse is all about. God...

Flatter Me Not

Let me not, I pray you, accept any man’s person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man.  -Job 32:21   You might not recognize it when you hear it because it is deceptive and you want to believe it. Someone begins to pour words of praise all over you and these words tap a little gene in your DNA called pride. We all love praise. We all want to know we matter to others, that our accomplishments are meaningful and sincerely appreciated. But, when praise is insincere, excessive and meant to deceive (to get someone to like us, do something for us, or just want the attention of someone), it is flattery. Why is flattery such a bad thing? Because flattery is excessive and insincere.  It is deceitful and treacherous.  When you flatter someone, you are...
