A Social Network Christmas
On Sunday’s, I like to post interesting video’s for the Sights & Sounds category. Over the past few weeks, I’ve had an ongoing conversation with a friend about popularity as it relates to Social Media.
We discussed why so many of us are swayed by popularity and why it really matters to us. My friend and I have long conversations about such things. These are sweet conversations and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
During a recent conversation, I mentioned something my Pastor once said.
“When I get to feeling big for my britches thinking maybe I should get more respect or notoriety, I just kneel beside my bed and visualize images of what Jesus looked like on the cross. He was the King of kings but at that moment he wasn’t very popular, if fact he was betrayed and abandoned by those who pledged their lives to Him.”
- Greg Thornhill
Quite a picture, no? It brings everything into focus doesn’t it? Well, it does for me. I often think of that advice and quietly put away my own desires for popularity.
Since the Christmas season is upon us, here’s a video from Igniter Media called A Social Network Christmas. It was originally released last year and some of you may have already seen it. It’s a great visual that shows Jesus was about as popular when He arrived in this world as He was when He chose to lay down His life for you and for me.
And here’s a not-so-popular verse to remember. It’s the OTHER John 3:16, the one found in I John.
Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
- I John 3:16

Thank you Keiki for sharing this video. I’m passing it along to share with others!
