The Free Book Lady

Free Book Lady

On being known as "The Free Book Lady"

So, I’ve recently been dubbed as “The Free Book Lady” because of the many free Christian books that appear on my Christian book site, The Vessel Project. If you’ve ever wondered why I post all the free Christian books I can find for Kindle and Nook, here’s why.

Bakers bake, writers write, and readers read. I am all three of these. I am not the best cook in the world, but I do okay. Unlike the last two in the list, I am prone to “mood baking.”  It seems from time to time, I just take a notion to go on a baking marathon. When I do, most of the edible items (sad to say some are not edible) are often given away. I do this for health reasons. Like my sister-in-law, Sandy Gardner, once said at one of our family Christmas dinners… “That dessert looks better on the plate than on my hips.”

But, I digress.

The primary reason I take the time to post links to all the free Christian books is because I when I was growing up, the Christian book market was very small. I was a voracious reader even then. Picture me huddled down on the corner of my bed reading all the books I could get my hands on.

Words have always moved me. The sound of them catches my attention. The use of them stirs my imagination.

I came to Jesus as my Savior when I was eleven. Sadly, our family was not a church going family so I really had no instruction on what salvation meant. If there were a Christian book market then and if there were free Christian books available to me, I might have grown in my faith. I might have learned a bit more about my Savior. I might have made a few less bad decisions.

But, there are other reasons I take the time to feature free Christian books on The Vessel Project . Here’s a few more.

1. I want to offer a place where readers can find quality Christian books without having to sift through all the, let’s just say, undesirable books available.

2. I want a reader to have the option of reading a quality Christian book in lieu of a book that presents images or ideas that they will need to confess and get clean of later.

3. Many of these books are authored by friends of mine and I want to help promote them.

4. I cannot tell you have many emails or notes I’ve received thanking me for offering a list of free Christian books each week. Notes and emails come from variety of people, from parents who can’t afford many books for themselves or their children to adult care givers who want to offer their parents or other senior adults quality Christian books.

So, I don my new name with honor. After all, I have a heart for connecting Christian authors to readers. Be sure to visit The Vessel Project and sign up for email updates. If you do, you will never want for a great Christian read.

Thank you for your untiring service, Book Lady! I have been downloading the to my iPod touch and reading them to my wife. Excellent choices. (It’s understandable that the novels are mostly women’s books!) Keep up the great work!
